Honest hobby guides, with the numbers 20 hobbies, one card each No sponsored rankings

Choosing a hobby should be the easy part.

Most people do not give up on finding a hobby because nothing appeals. They give up because nobody tells them, up front, what each one really asks for.

What this site is

Pickahobby is a small independent reference. It describes 20 hobbies so far, each on the same card: what the starter kit costs, what it costs each month, how much room it takes, how loud and messy it is, and how soon a beginner has something to show for it.

Because every hobby is described the same way, they can be sorted, filtered and compared. That is what the picker, the find-by lists and the compare page do.

How the pages are written

Each page is put together from makers, retailers, clubs, official guidance and standard reference works, written in plain language, and lists the sources it leans on. We do not claim hands-on experience we do not have, and we say where the numbers come from on the numbers page.

There are no sponsored rankings and nobody pays to be listed. If that ever changes for a page, the page will say so.

What you will not find here

  • Star ratings for hobbies. Fit is personal.
  • Lists of fifty things to buy. Each page has a short starter kit and a list of what to skip.
  • Advice that replaces a coach, a vet, a doctor or your local rules.
